RAFFA FIELDS
Our farming story began in the early 1950’s when Luigi Raffa migrated to Australia from Sicily, Italy. He spent his first few years in Australia working on farms in the Koo Wee Rup region of Victoria, before starting his own farm with his wife Sebastiana. Together with his son Lou, Luigi worked hard growing potatoes, carrots, onions, swedes, turnips, corn and peas, paving the way for the family’s farming future.
Luigi and Lou were then joined by Lou’s brother Con, and soon after they decided to specialise their cropping in asparagus in response to strong market demand. In 1988, with their wives Ada and Tina, Lou and Con expanded their business and began their packing operation.
Lou’s eldest son, Vince, joined the team full time in 2000 after an apprenticeship in mechanics, and now specialises in production.
Together with Lou, he oversees the ground preparation, growing and harvesting, as well as managing the business’ maintenance and engineering.
Lou’s youngest son Paul, a skilled draftsman and building designer, has expertly managed the business’ numerous building development and expansion projects, as the business has grown over the years.
In 2017, the business was joined by Con’s son and daughter-in-law, Christian and Rosalee, to supervise operations and together with Con, run the bustling pack-house. In the same year Con’s son, Adrian, joined the export sales team at Momack Produce to distribute our asparagus to customers all over the world. We are proud to export to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, China, Taiwan and more.
From humble beginnings, over the past sixty years, our family business has grown to become one the largest asparagus farming operations in Australia.
